Utopian Labyrinth Zine

An interactive spiral-bound zine that immerses readers in a chaotic yet playful journey of abstract patterns, shapes, and text. Using experimental forms and unexpected visual interactions, the zine invites exploration through a utopian labyrinth of beautiful chaos. Created for the 2024 Multiple Formats Art Book Fair in Boston, the piece blends creative design and interactivity to deliver a thought-provoking, immersive experience.

About 2024 Multiple Formats

Multiple Formats is a symposium that brings together conversations on artist books, higher education, pedagogy, and topics such as advocacy, distribution, collection, and access. Each year, it also hosts an art book fair, where design students, graphic designers, book designers, and other creatives showcase their craft. As part of my Sophomore Graphic Design Studio at Boston University, I designed bookmarks, postcards, posters, and zines to be featured in the fair.

Vision behind the "Utopian Labyrinth" Zine

In this project, I experimented with over 100 geometric and organic forms, using color, line, texture, and contrast to explore the balance between chaos and order, structure and fluidity. The resulting zine embraces beautiful chaos through maze-like shapes, guiding text, and blocky fonts like Redaction, inviting readers to navigate a utopian labyrinth of confusion and curiosity. Transparent and reflective materials, along with interactive prompts like a page for scribbling, transform flipping through the zine into an immersive, tactile experience, reimagining how shape and form function in graphic design.
